About Us
I am that hippie kid who grew up in the 70’s and 80’s . When asked from where specifically, I tend to sum it up with “the United States Collective” I’m a product of Growing up Global ly but in a local form, having never left the US until college. I have lived in 10 different states and several places within and most spots in the middle of nowhere, or at least that is what I thought as a kid. I only wanted to run and do the opposite of my parents like any normal rebellious child. I dreamed of moving to the city where I would marry a man who wore a suit and worked in an office, I have no idea why but maybe because it was different. Years later I’m grown and have run back to my roots to dig up all those skills I ignored, but know I must have assimilated through some sort of crazy osmosis. I remember fresh fish and game, homemade yogurt, and blackberry picking excursions down by the river that were fueled by motivation: more berries = more pies. With those seeds of self sufficiency planted from my childhood and my hands on education in the outdoor world; I hold degrees in a ski bumming, river rat swimming, climbing vagabonding and more title oddities that only a prolific reader of climbing route names would understand, I have begun to grow roots and enjoy the fruits of tending to my plants.
I have a family of my own and if you know me, you know my husband’s suit, top to bottom consists of a ski hat, down jacket and jeans. I’m excited to share that wonderful childhood with my children but with my twist. I’m just wondering where they’ll want to run!

The practice of living in the moment is an aspiration that I try to live up to on a daily basis, and photography helps me recognize and remember that each instant is unique and that every one of us has the capability to fully experience it in our own way. Do you do giveaways and product or book reviews?
We haven’t done any giveaways or product reviews yet, but are not opposed to it. If there is something to shout about and it is super awesome we would love to know about it.
I am planning on a vacation to the Methow Valley, Washington State where should I go and what’s not to be missed?
Oh, the list is long and it really depends on what you would like to do here.
The Methow Valley experiences all five seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Mud) so pick your favorite or just visit often.
The Summer is lovely and if you drove over the North Cascades Highway 20 you already know how beautiful the American Alps really are.
Autumn is an outdoor lovers paradise here in the Methow. If you can think it up it’s probably an option, unless of course you want take out or shopping after 9pm ;0)
Winter is full of wonder. Ullr lays down a beautiful blanket of snow right about mid December just in time for the Piston Bullies to awake from their slumber and leave their tracks for all ski enthusiasts to follow.
Spring is amazing if you enjoy wild flowers and like us love color after a winter of living in an Ansel Adams photograph. It’s beautiful but change is beautiful too.

I am so excited for new recipes to share with my family! I am determined to teach my kids to like more food that I do, and my husband is always excited about new recipes! Hoping to learn some new recipes to use up all the veggies that I am growing this summer! Love the site and so excited!

I hope you enjoy the book, I have just reviewed her most recent novel ‘Honour’ which I enjoyed very much, it will be published in the US on March 7. She improves with every book and I am even more interested now as I will visit Istanbul for the first time in May this year, so wonderful to be reading a writer who has such a great love for her city and culture and yet has one foot as she says in cities around the world.

Beautiful photos!! I have to look around and read some more! We are quite similar in that I too dreamed of getting out of a small town for big city life and actually did just that! Now that i’m older I have followed in my Dad’s footsteps and have taken on gardening and wonder why in the world I never did it earlier in my life. I’ve gone back to my roots in a way. I don’t live in a big city but I don’t live in a rural country town either. It’s interesting how our attitude and beliefs and interests change as we become older. And … that’s a good thing!

Thank you, I am ever learning when taking photos and writing. Gardening can be so rewarding as a child I think I just saw the work part. Now older I enjoy the physical aspect, the meditative time, learning and producing food that is so much more flavorful than what I can find in our grocery stores. I am glad that my children share with me those enjoyment factors too. 🙂 Happy Gardening to you!

I grew up living in one place, but it was agricultural. We grew some of our own vegetables, went to farms to pick fruit, and we did a lot of canning. I own three editions of The Joy of Cooking, which got more use when I had to cook for a family of four. Besides those three books, I only own two other cookbooks. I took a look at your cookbook page, which is much more impressive. I love your description of yourself as a hippy kid. That used to be me. Thanks for visiting my blog. I look forward to following your blog!

Hi Robin, ahh yes! You should see my battered copy of The Joy of Cooking, wait I think I have a photo of it. Anyway, it is well loved and our favorite, most used pages are now stapled together and stuck into the book. My girls use it as much as I do… that’s a good sign. I think I have a cook book or any book for that matter addiction. Bookstores love me. In past they’ve sent me gifts for being such a loyal customer!
I do love our blueberry excursions each summer and then the full harvest put up in late summer through fall.
Yes, I think I got lucky with my name. Story goes I could have been Sugar… short for SugarMagnolia. Thank goodness it takes to parents to decide! Still my name is character building as no one can hear, say or spell it as it should be. I am also Michelle, Rochelle, Richelle, Rachael the list goes on. I think I remember wanting to be Jennifer or Stacy because people “got” those names 😉 oh well.

Having moved often, my husband bought me an e-reader to discourage purchasing actual books. Books are heavy to move. I have had to give up a lot of my books due to moving. When we moved a little more than a year ago, the movers complained about all of my boxes of books. How nice to get gifts for being a loyal customer!
Blueberries were one of our many excursions 🙂
