Seasonal Creations for the Sustainable Chef
We write from our experience in the kitchen and garden, but also with the wonderful contributions of guest chefs, writers and bloggers.
Chefs, gardeners, teachers and agricultural producers grace our site. Our community of understanding and information is our foundation, and we are excited to share it with you.
Do it Yourself Production & Homegrown Recipes
Within the recipes of this blog are many methods of self-sufficient food production. Each recipe contains the goal of being as comprehensive as can be for doing it yourself from start to finish.
How much of what we make for our families can be grown, gathered or caught, and made in the most natural, simple and self-sufficient method possible?
Each recipe in this blog aspires to this goal. We also take into account that each cook reading has a different set of tools and options to work with.
We can’t always grow every single organic ingredient. For instance, we don’t personally produce grain or cheese—but there are folks within a few miles who do, and you will find them on this blog. And, on the main scale, each recipe is producible from your garden, the neighborly gathering of fruits, and stealth procurement of meats. Thankfully we have husbands who takes care of that last part.
Not everyone has the possibility of a garden; so these recipes contain a lot of options for indoor growing (for instance a herb and greens kitchen garden or cold box). Not everyone hunts, fishes (or has a partner who does) so the recipes don’t absolutely require fresh game, but it sure is preferable, health wise. And not everyone has space for chickens, nut trees, fruit trees and honey bees, but thankfully, these are foods that we can buy fairly readily. When we can’t catch it or grow it ourselves, there are folks doing it organically and ethically, and our blog index gives you some great options for responsible purchases.
Within each narrative you will find methods of gardening, methods of preserving, and tips learned by making many mistakes thru the years, growing, harvesting, putting up and cooking.
Here’s hoping these recipes inspire your hands and mind in kitchen, fill happy bellies and warm the hearts of your family and friends. Love from our kitchen to yours!

Looking good. So much to share!
